Dr. West is one of America's great treasures. I first heard him speak in the JFK Jr. Forum at the Kennedy School of Government in 1995. His erudition, wit, and ability to speak to the issues of race in this country were an eye opening experience for me. In his opening remarks he stressed the importance of public service during these "dark and difficult times". I call upon all brothers and sisters engaged in the struggle of becoming better people to heed Dr. West's prophetic words - we must honor the tradition of struggle by cutting across the grain at great personal expense. There are no shortcuts, no dreams fulfilled, without sacrifice. Watch the full video here - https://iop.harvard.edu/forum/race-matters
